Absolutely. Your realtor has no way of knowing whether or not those are the only two keys available for the house. Additionally, the keys given to you by the realtor may not necessarily open all the doors your new house. In many cases the keys used by the realtor to open the front door will open only the front door, because the front door locks were changed for the convenience of showing the house, and not necessarily to secure it. This is not an indictment of the realtor, but merely reflects the fact that there is very little worth stealing in the house at the time. Also, remember that you do not know why the former tenant decided to move— kids in the neighborhood may have caused problems, they may have been on poor terms with their next-door neighbors, or they may have been targeted more than once by thieves for break-in because they lacked sensible security measures. In any case, the very least you should do is to rekey all your locks, or, based upon your locksmith’s recommendations, upgrade them.
Most doors have weather-stripping attached to the frame in order to keep the wind, dust, and bugs from getting into the house. If the existing lock hardware had been properly installed, the weather-stripping would then be compressed just enough to achieve those goals while still permitting the door to lock smoothly. Correcting the problem with a few simple adjustments will usually do the trick. Always feel free to direct my attention to these little problems when I arrive, and I will always be happy to oblige.

Unfortunately for you and everyone else, today's advertising media are up to their eyeballs in phony locksmiths and scammers of all types. The disconnected phone lines could be related to the possibility of a failed attempt at entering what is a very competitive trade. Another possibility is that the number was disconnected in relation to a scam or a possible lawsuit, in order to make the scammer more difficult to find. Your best bet in finding a stable and responsible locksmith company is to check the company name against the records at the Florida division of corporations, which, at the very least, can indicate how long the company has been in business, and whether the company has been in business continuously. These records may also indicate whether the company has been run under the same leadership, and also if and when changes in ownership may have occurred. I, however, am very happy to report that this company has been under my ownership since day one, and that it will remain so far into the future.
Years ago, I decided against opening a storefront in order to keep prices under control. With storefront rents going for upwards of thousands of dollars per month, I would have to cut a ton of key blanks per month before I would break even financially. Obviously, I might make additional money as a result of impulse purchases, but I prefer for my clients to have an opportunity to make more thoughtful purchases instead, reducing or eliminating the possibility of buyer's remorse later.
Absolutely! Keep in mind, however, that my usual guarantee will not apply in such cases. My five year guarantee on all new hardware only applies to such hardware purchased from, and installed by, me! I will, of course, guarantee the function of such locks relative to any keying, master-keying, or the accuracy of the actual installation. Any future malfunctioning of the actual locking mechanisms or hardware itself in these cases shall be the sole responsibility of the manufacturer, or of the retail establishment at which the items were purchased.
The great majority of locks and hardware that I stock are superior in both features and benefits to much of the lock hardware which is commonly available to the public in box stores and discount stores. In many cases we would be in a position of comparing apples to oranges, and while I am by no means accusing retail stores of selling garbage, I feel it's extremely important for you to have as much information and as many security options as possible when deciding on a purchase. You deserve to have a real selection from which to choose, and I'm making sure that you get it.
Sure, I could. But that would take me away from my clients, and I really don't want that to happen. The trouble is, that I really love what I do for a living-- I love meeting my clients, I love hearing their stories, I love seeing the look of satisfaction on their faces when they see that I have made their problem go away, when they see that their house is now buttoned up securely! I don't want to have to go through employee turnover problems. I don't want to wonder if I can trust them, or if you can trust them! I can't tell you how many of my customers have told me over the years how much they appreciate the fact that whenever they call this company they always get the boss! And the simple reason that I will never change my policy is because I really like my clients, and most of them really like me!
Can I? Probably. Will I? Absolutely not. First of all, I have no desire to be the locksmith for the masses. First of all, it practically guarantees substandard work. No business person in his right mind can afford to take the time to do a job completely, and thoroughly, if he's only making a few bucks for showing up. If he runs into a snag on the job, the chances are good that he’ll let it slide in the hopes that you won't notice it. If, on the outside chance that you do notice it, it's unlikely that he'll want to return to fix it properly. There is also a possibility that, after giving you the low quote you were looking for, he may even completely blow off your job for someone who offers 10 bucks more. My feeling is that, when a tradesperson will take almost any job at almost any price, it's usually because he's not getting much work, or possibly because he's not capable of providing high-quality work. Let the buyer beware.
I never give a warranty on my work. I guarantee all my work! A warranty is generally conditional (as if your lock is going to fail between 2 and 4 p.m. on Palm Sunday during a tornado). I guarantee all new hardware sold and installed by me for a period of five years (the only exceptions being damages caused by vandalism or abuse). You deserve to know how important you are to the success of my company. You deserve to be treated honorably, and with respect! You deserve to know that your hard-earned money is not going down the toilet! And you deserve to know that if something is wrong, I will make it right! Period.

Yes, it's true. The only stipulation is that you buy the hardware from me. If so, I will remedy any problem for any reason with the exception of vandalism or abuse. Home Depot can remedy It’s own problems.
I guess it's because I'm just old-fashioned. When I was a kid, back in the days when dinosaurs ruled the earth, it seemed that just about everybody would go to work in the daytime and come home in the evening, just in time for supper. Things were so crazy back then that storekeepers actually closed on Sunday, too! People than were so backward that they thought they needed time for work, and for their families, and even for God. Everything was nuts back then. Now, I'm not judging anybody for setting their life's priorities as they wish, but, as far as I'm concerned, I don't want or need to make all the money there is available to make. And I don't want or need to place every living human being on my customer list! I only want you to realize that you can have access to a talented, responsible locksmith who will solve practically any problem you might encounter during a typical business day. Other people can rule the world, as far as I'm concerned.

That’s a common misperception. Master keys can be used for various purposes, and are generally set up in such a way that they will open locks related to keys of a specific group. For example, if you wanted to give a house key to your cleaning lady, you could masterkey a lock in your home to permit her access to that one particular door, while your MASTER KEY continues to open every door in the house! Another advantage is that you only need to rekey one cylinder if your cleaning lady ever leaves your employ—not the entire house!
In reality, I charged you less this time than previously. When I give a quick quote on the phone, it's based upon the time it would take to get to you in relation to the distance I would have to travel. Because I am constantly on the road going from one job to another, I base my service call estimates on the average time and distance traveled. And because road and traffic conditions are constantly changing, I sometimes find myself closer to the next customer than anticipated -- and, whenever that is the case, I will automatically deduct a portion of the service call to reflect the lesser time and distance traveled. It is my company policy however, never to charge more than I quoted a client over the phone, even if I had to sit in a traffic jam for an hour to get to the job. You are too important to me to be taken for granted.
In many, many thousands of jobs, I have yet to unintentionally destroy a lock merely by picking it open. Nor am I one of those locksmiths who intentionally sets out to destroy a lock so that I can sell you a new one (or three, or five). So don't worry -- I always give my client an opportunity to check the lock with their existing key once I get them back inside of their house, or their car, or whatever. Your lock will be perfectly fine once I'm done with it.

Actually, I travel all over the county on a fairly regular basis. Although a good portion of my work involves traveling to Davie, Cooper City, Southwest Ranches, Plantation, and Sunrise, I have also run many jobs ranging from Parkland and Coral Springs to Hollywood, Miramar, Wilton Manors, and Victoria Park. Don't worry -- I'm usually all over the County on any given day, so coming out to your house will be my pleasure.
Generally speaking, I don't. Not across the board anyway. In my daily travels, I come across people of obvious financial means, and other people (such as a single mothers, or the elderly) who are struggling to keep their heads above water. One of the nicest things about having my own business is that when I come across people who are having a hard time in life, I can assist them in any way I see fit. I prefer, however, not to discuss what I do to help the less fortunate, or how often I may do it. The details are between me and my God.
